Youth Ministry
Effective
Youth Ministry engages the youth of the parish and the entire community on a journey of discipleship
in response to meeting Christ. It connects the needs of the parish's youth with the gifts of
the community, and it connects the gifts of the youth with the needs of the community.
The youth ministry leader coordinates the ministry of the parish to the youth and the ministry of the youth to the parish.
The philosophy of Comprehensive Youth Ministry at St. Vincent de Paul comes from the U.S. Bishops' document, “Renewing the Vision”, in which the best methods of Catholic Youth Ministry are presented along with a Church-wide set of goals.
Comprehensive Youth Ministry Encompasses Three Goals:
- To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
- To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
- To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
Comprehensive Youth Ministry Incorporates Eight Components:
- Advocacy
- Catechesis
- Community life
- Evangelization
- Justice and Service
- Leadership Development
- Pastoral Care
- Prayer and Worship
These components provide a framework for the Catholic community to respond to the needs of young people and to involve young people in sharing their unique gifts with the larger community. A comprehensive ministry with adolescents provides balance among all eight components.
